Dear All,

The Municipality of Škocjan and the Biotechnical Faculty at the University of Ljubljana invite you to the opening of an exhibition of conceptual proposals for landscape architecture designs of Škocjan’s central public space, prepared by third-year.

The exhibition opening will take place on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the conference hall of the Škocjan Cultural Center, Škocjan 76, 8275 Škocjan.
The event will be accompanied by a special cultural program.

The exhibition presents student projects that, through landscape architecture research, explore the future of Škocjan’s town center as a community space. At a time when the traditional functions of urban and village centers are changing under the influence of social, environmental, and economic processes, public space is becoming a key tool for reestablishing local identity, social cohesion, and sustainable development.

The student projects stem from an understanding of the town center as an open system of relationships between people, programs, landscape, and infrastructure. The students propose various scenarios that emphasize flexibility, diverse uses, and the gradual transformation of the space. Public spaces are no longer treated merely as isolated fragments of space around existing buildings, typically intended for parking cars, but as an active social medium where daily rituals, spontaneous encounters, and collective experiences intertwine.

Particular emphasis is placed on reinterpreting existing spatial potentials, such as traffic areas, Cvetkin Pasture, and other fragments of open space. Through subtle spatial interventions—ranging from the design of the plaza in front of the cultural center, green parking lots, and community programs to tactical urban planning strategies—students explore how even small changes can trigger more effective use of space and significant social impacts.

The exhibition also reveals the educational process as a laboratory of ideas. The academic environment allows for a critical distance from established practices and encourages experimentation, speculation, and interdisciplinary thinking. The projects therefore do not represent final solutions, but rather thoughtful proposals that open a discussion on the role of public space in contemporary society.

The exhibition will be on view through September 1, 2026, during the opening hours of the Škocjan Local Library. Admission is free.
