Fifth Workshop on Wood Protection, Installation and Outdoor Use to Focus on High-Quality Timber Construction
How can high-quality and durable timber construction be ensured in a time of changing climatic conditions? The fifth workshop, “Wood Protection, Installation and Outdoor Use”, will provide answers by bringing together the latest expert knowledge, practical experience and examples of good practice.
On Thursday, 24 September 2026, the Department of Forestry and Renewable Forest Resources at the University of Ljubljana, Biotechnical Faculty, will host the fifth workshop entitled “Wood Protection, Installation and Outdoor Use”. The event is intended for architects, designers, contractors, investors and everyone interested in high-quality, durable and innovative timber construction and the efficient use of local wood resources.
This year’s workshop will pay particular attention to wood quality under changing environmental conditions, the consequences of climate change and various natural disasters, and the possibilities for using affected wood in construction. The speakers will also present solutions for wood protection, quality assurance of timber construction products, fire protection, the use of wood in multi-storey buildings and the reuse of reclaimed wood in building renovation.
The workshop will highlight the role of wood as a strategic material in the transition to a low-carbon society and the importance of innovation throughout the entire forest–wood value chain – from sustainable forest management to advanced timber construction solutions. In addition to the latest expert knowledge, participants will learn about concrete examples of its application in practice.
The topics presented at the workshop will include:
-
the impact of climate change on the quality of wood from Slovenian forests,
-
wood decay in buildings,
-
fire protection of wood,
-
the use of wood in multi-storey timber construction,
-
