European Researchers’ Night: Join the Biotechnical Faculty to Explore International Research Careers and the World of Viroids

How does international experience shape a research career? What are viroids, and how do they affect plants? These are the questions the University of Ljubljana’s Biotechnical Faculty will explore at this year’s European Researchers’ Night, bringing visitors closer to science and the people behind it.

Through the ViroiDoc project and in collaboration with the Rhythm of Life project, the Faculty is organising two events in Ljubljana.

Rhythms of Research Careers: International Mobility for Students and Researchers
18:00–19:30 | National Institute of Biology, Večna pot 121, Ljubljana

The event will explore the opportunities, experiences and challenges of the international research environment, as well as the different paths that shape a research career. Students and researchers interested in what international mobility could bring to their own research journey are especially welcome.

When the Viroids in the Lemonade Find Their Groove
11:00–13:00 | Prešeren Square, Ljubljana

This interactive presentation will introduce visitors to viroids and their effects on plants through hands-on research activities. Participants will learn more about plant disease research and the processes taking place in living organisms.

More Than 100 Opportunities to Discover Science

As part of the Rhythm of Life project, more than 100 interactive events will take place across Slovenia. Research, educational, cultural and other institutions will welcome visitors to experiments, workshops, lectures, tours and presentations.

Students and researchers are also encouraged to explore the evening programme at the National Institute of Biology:

  • 19:30: Super Potato: When Breeding Tolerant Varieties Races to Keep Up with Weather Extremes;

  • 19:45: The Dynamics of Gene Expression in Plants Under Stress: A New Generation of RNA Sequencing;

  • 18:00–20:30, every 30 minutes: Feel the Pulse of Progress: Guided Tour of the New BTS NIB Laboratories;

  • 20:00: When a Scientist Is Left Alone in the Wilderness – a lecture by the winner of the survival show Alone.
