Content (Syllabus outline)

Introduction to mechanical processing operations. Theory of chip formation – chip formation as a result of interaction of the blade geometry, mass flux, friction, orientation of wood tissue and the inherent anisotropic properties of wood. Kinematic characteristics of the complex motion. Mechanics of the process of linear and circular cutting of wood tissues and wood composites. Specific cutting force. Energy consumption during cutting process. Thermodynamics of cutting process; energy requirements necessary for the gradual or. instantaneous separation of the material structure and formation of new surfaces, methods of evaluation of morphological characteristics of machined surfaces, means of obtaining relevant information on the morphology of the treated surfaces. Tools for mechanical machining operations with cutting. Sawing tools, milling tools, planer tools, drilling tools, flexible tools for grinding. Fundamentals of design of woodworking tools. Materials for production of base and blade tools. Persistence and tool wear. Preparation and sharpening. Morphology of the mechanically treated surfaces. Construction fixtures. The selection of treatment technologies and optimization of technological parameters.
