Introduction to biochemistry: molecular logi cof life, biological molecules, configuration and conformation, chemical reactivity, water: weak intramolecular interactions in water, ionization of water, buffers

Structure and catalysis: amino acids, peptides and proteins; three-dimensional structure of proteins; protein secondary structure, tertiary structure, quaternary structure, folding; protein function: structural proteins; oxygen binding proteins: myoglobin and hemoglobin; enzymes: how enzymes work, enzyme kinetics, regulatory enzymes; carbohydrates: monosaharides, disaharides, polysaharides, glycoconjugates; nucleotides and nucleic acids: some basics, structure of nucleic acids, nucleid acid chemistry; lipids: storage lipids, structural lipids in membranes, lipids as signals, cofactors and pigments; biological membranes and transport accros  the membrane: active and passive transport, biosignalization, gated ionic channels, receptor enzymes. Bioenergetic and metabolism: bioenergetic and thermodynamics, phosphoryl group transfer and ATP, biological oxidation-reduction reactions; glycolysis, and catabolism of hexoses; the citric acid cycle; fatty acid catabolism, amino acid oxidation and production of urea, oxidative phosphorilation and photophosphorilation, carbohydrate biosynthesis, gluconeogenesis, biosynthesis of glycogen and starch and sacharose; lipid biosynthesis, biosynthesis of fatty acids and triacylglycerols and cholesterol.

Transfer of biological information: storage of biological informations: genes and chromosomes, DNA metabolism, RNA methabolism, protein metabolism.

Requirements for enrolment:

Inscription to adequate academic year.

 

Terms of Prerequisites:

Completed practical laboratory work and  colloquium.
