Open position: RESEARCHER at the Department of Microbiology

At the Department of Microbial Ecology and Physiology, the Department of Microbiology, there is an open position for a researcher with a master\'s degree in the fields of microbiology, biotechnology, veterinary medicine, molecular biology and bioinformatics. The candidate should have two years of laboratory experience and knowledge in the field of bioinformatics. The employee will work in a dynamic team. The duties of the new employee will be related to comparative genomics and bacterial interaction research. At the department, we use advanced methods of recombinant DNA, confocal microscopy, cell sorting and other advanced methods. We value self-initiative, creativity and the joy of research work.

2. Qualifications required for the position:

master’s degree in natural sciences,
active knowledge of English language,
good communication and organizational skills,
ability to work independently in professional and scientific environment,
we are looking for a candidate with experience in microbiology, genetic engineering of microbes and basics in bioinformatics,
we expect candidates to be eager to learn new skills and new tool to analyse the data.

3. Short description of tasks:

designing and performing laboratory experiments investigating horizontal gene transfer and genetic engineering of bacteria,
investigating bacterial interactions in the laboratory setting using fluorescent microscopy, interactions assays and genomic data analysis,
basic bioinformatics tools involving Python and R,.
collaboration within the project team, chair and the department,
preparation of research reports, presentations and research manuscripts,
active participation in department seminars,
chair meetings and group meetings,
carrying out tasks in one's field as instructed by the head of the organizational unit and other tasks that fall within the broader professional area of the position.
