On Monday, 12 May 2025, between 16:00 and 18:00, a free interactive workshop with a lecture by Prof. Dr. Nina Kacjan-Maršić on the topic of vegetable garden planning and care will take place at the UL Faculty of Biotechnology. The workshop with practical work is open to all over 55 years of age and will take place in the framework of the Food for the Brain Festival, which this year focuses on the theme of biodiversity and is linked to the UL Blue Faculty Lifelong Learning Programme.
Workshop content
The workshop will provide participants with or deepen their knowledge on the importance of timely and correct vegetable garden planning, with a focus on understanding the crop rotation with examples of good practices, measures for earlier vegetable production, newer techniques for growing seedlings, and the basics of irrigation and fertilisation. Hydroponic and aquaponic vegetable production will also be presented.
A practical demonstration of the root ball technique and a tour of the hydroponic and aquaponic systems will form part of the workshop programme.
