Lecture on flax - a traditional oilseed and spinning plant

The Association for Biodynamic Management AJDA SOSTRO, in cooperation with the Department of Agronomy of Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, invites you to an interesting lecture entitled "Flax - a traditional oilseed and spinning crop", which will take place on Wednesday, 18 June 2025 at 7 pm at the Zadvor Cooperative House (Cesta II. grupe odredov 43, Dobrunje).

The guests of the evening will be:

Dr Darja Kocjan Ačko, textile plant expert from the Department of Agronomy at UL BF, and

Anamarija Ačko Hrovat, MSc, expert in sustainable use of plant resources.

The lecture will highlight the importance of flax (Linum usitatissimum L.), an annual plant with blue flowers, which has been used by humans for centuries for fibre and seeds. We will learn how flax has accompanied man throughout history - from Valvasor's description of the cultivation of the stems and the weaving of linen to the modern possibilities of reviving its cultivation and use.

The event will specifically focus on the possibilities of re-growing flax and the use of stems and seeds in our environment. After the lecture, we will taste millet bread with flaxseed.

For further inspiration, you can already watch a wonderful video about the flax revival workshops in Davča, prepared by the Handicraft Centre Škofja Loka and the Development Agency Sora d.o.o.:
