INVITATION TO THE ROUND TABLE

"Crisis science communication: How to say the right thing at the wrong time?"

The Student Council of the Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, in the framework of the Summer School "Science at a Crossroads: From Popularisation to Manipulation", is organising a round table where we will discuss the challenges of communicating science in times of crisis with distinguished guests.
Why are we recently caught in a vicious circle of social crises? How can science influence their course? How do you as a scientist deal with public doubt, political pressure or a flood of information, while maintaining the credibility and accuracy of the information?

We will seek answers to these and many other questions with the help of guests who have experienced crisis communication in science first-hand:

- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dan Podjed, anthropologist and Science Communicator 2024,- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mateja Logar, infectologist and former first face of action during the epidemic of covida-19,- David Zupančič, infectologist, writer, podcast and TV show host.

The round table will take place on Thursday, 25 September 2025, at 10.15 in Lecture Room A1 at the Biotechnical Faculty, UL (Department of Agronomy).

The event is an excellent opportunity for students, scientists and the general public to gain insights into the practice of crisis science communication and to engage in a discussion with top experts.

In addition, anyone interested in this topic in more detail is cordially invited to attend all the other lectures of the Summer School, where we will broaden our focus on science communication and the role of science in contemporary society, especially in the context of misinformation, conspiracy theories and ethical dilemmas in scientific research.
