INVITATION TO THE FINAL EVENT OF THE FULL MIRROR (V3-2310) and SCHOOL CROCHET (V4-2307) OBJECTIVE RESEARCH PROJECTS
on Friday, 24 October 2025, at 12 noon, in the Janez Hribar Hall at the Biotechnical Faculty, 101 Jamnikarjeva Street, 1000 Ljubljana
The two targeted research projects, co-funded by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia and the Public Agency for Scientific Research and Innovation of the Republic of Slovenia in the years 2023-2025, focus on the challenges of healthier nutrition of primary school children and the transition of the school nutrition system to a more sustainable one through multi-level approaches.
The final event will present the key results of both projects, aimed at translating them into practice, as well as the materials produced by the research teams for practitioners, pupils and parents. The presentation of the results will be followed by a roundtable discussion with stakeholders in the school feeding system on the challenges of healthy and sustainable nutrition for primary school children.
The event is free of charge, but in order to facilitate logistical planning, registration via the online form (https://1ka.arnes.si/CRP) is required by 17 October 2025. The event is scheduled to end at 15.30.
Briefly about the research projects:
CRP V3-2310 "Full Grain",
- National Institute of Public Health (Dr Urška Blaznik),
- Partners Faculty of Education, Biotechnical Faculty, Institute of Nutrition Science.
The project aimed to promote the consumption of whole grain foods among primary school children through active forms of teaching in the 6th grade of primary school. Although we know that whole-grain foods make an important contribution to the prevention of many non-communicable chronic diseases, they are still not common on our menus, and children and adolescents are particularly reluctant to consume them. The project has introduced a successful nutrition intervention and developed teaching and promotional materials on wholegrain foods. We also looked at the supply of wholegrain foods on the market in Slovenia.
CRP V4-2307 "School plate",
- Led by the The Biotechnical Faculty, UL (Dr Mojca Korošec),
- Partners National Institute of Public Health and National Laboratory for Health, Environment and Food
The project focused on food supply practices, meal preparation and the management of surplus and discarded food in educational institutions. The project monitored the liking of more sustainable dishes among pupils in the second third of primary school and looked for reasons for rejection. We have produced material that can help catering organisers and cooking staff to introduce sustainable practices into the school catering system.
