Professors from Ilia State University of Georgia visit the Biotechnical Faculty

Next week we will host two professors from Ilia State University, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Medicine, Tbilisi, Georgia, in the framework of the Erasmus+ programme at the Institute of Dairy and Probiotics, Department of Zootechnics.
We invite you to join us on Thursday, 16 October, in Lecture Room Ž1, Department of Food Science, where the two guests will give two lectures:- Elena Zhuravliova - Food and Chemoprevention- Tamar Barbakadze - Food as Medicine
About the guest professors:
Elene Zhuravliova is a highly experienced academic leader with more than 17 years of experience in higher education. She graduated in Biology from the Tbilisi State University in 1999, and then obtained a Master's degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from the same university in 2001. She received her PhD in Biochemistry (Neurochemistry) in 2005. Since 2005 she has been working at the I. Beritashvili Centre for Experimental Biomedicine and since 2008 as Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at Ilia State University. Since 2013 she has been working as Associate Professor. She is actively involved in research and teaching at bachelor, master and doctoral level. She has been a mentor for more than 25 Master's students and seven PhD students. She has extensive experience in the study of biochemistry and molecular biology of nerve cell signalling. She has authored more than 30 scientific publications. During her PhD studies, she has been involved in projects supported by STCU, CRDF, ISTC and other foundations. She is the President of the Georgian Biochemical Federation representation in FEBS and a member of the international organisations ISN, IBRO and FENS.
Since 2015, she has been the Head of the Quality Assurance Service at the Faculty of Science and Medicine for almost eight years. During this period, she coordinated and managed the process of re-accreditation of the Faculty's study programmes and participated in the design of new higher education and certification programmes. In October 2022, she was elected Dean of the Faculty of Science and Medicine.
Tamar Barbakadze has about 16 years of experience in education and 24 years of research experience. She received her PhD in Biology (Biochemistry) from the Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology in Tbilisi, Georgia in 2005. Since 2009 she is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Medicine, Ilia State University, where she is involved in the teaching of the MSc programmes in Biopharmaceutics, Food Science and Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology. She is the author of more than 35 scientific publications. Since 2022, she has been the Head of the Quality Assurance Service at the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine.
