Ion microscopy for elemental characterization of tissues in plant and food sciences

What is really hidden in the plant tissues we consume every day?

How are elements distributed within cells and tissues—and why is this crucial for understanding their biological availability in food?

At this Virtual Pub event, you will learn how ion microscopy can literally "look inside" plants and food. Lecturers Paula Pongrac (Jožef Stefan Institute and UL Faculty of Biotechnology) and Blaž Režonja (UL Biotechnical Faculty) will present the capabilities of the micro-PIXE method, which enables accurate mapping of elements at the micrometer level and reliable, quantitative results for a wide range of elements.

The lecture will also highlight the practical aspects of research – from simple sample preparation to established working procedures – and present a case study in which undergraduate students used the micro-PIXE method to analyze selected edible seeds.

If you are interested in modern analytical technology, plant and food research, and insight into concrete research practice, this lecture is the right choice for you.
