9th Simčič Symposium: HYDRATION – more than just water
How much fluid do we actually need? Is water always the best choice? What role does hydration play in health, well-being, and daily performance?
These and many other questions will be answered at the 9th Simčič Symposium, which will take place on March 4, 2026, starting at 4 p.m. The event is organized by final-year students of the master's program in Nutrition at the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana.
This year's Simčič Symposium is dedicated to hydration as a topic that goes beyond mere water intake and represents a complex physiological process with important metabolic, clinical, psychological, and social dimensions. In a series of short, content-focused lectures, experts and students will highlight the role of hydration in maintaining health, the challenges of ensuring safe and accessible drinking water, the importance of assessing hydration status, and open a discussion on how we hydrate ourselves today.
This year's symposium will place special emphasis on a round table discussion on current topics related to hydration, with the participation of Slovenian influencers and experts in the fields of nutrition, health, and science communication. The discussion will highlight contemporary hydration habits, the influence of social media and marketing, and the challenges of effectively translating scientific recommendations into everyday life.
The program will be further enriched with an interactive break, during which some partner companies will be presented, and participants will be able to visit educational and experiential stands. During this time, they will have the opportunity to learn about different approaches to assessing hydration status, participate in body composition measurements, and take part in tastings of different types of water and water cocktails. An interactive challenge will also take place throughout the symposium, and the event will conclude with an award ceremony for selected participants.
The symposium is intended for students, experts in the field of nutrition, health, and public health, and anyone interested in the role of hydration in human health. A total of four hours of diverse, topical, and professional programming awaits you.
