2nd Expert Conference on Irrigation 2026
On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the 2nd Expert Conference on Irrigation will take place in the main hall of the KGZS Ptuj Institute. The conference is intended to present current challenges, research, and best practices in the field of agricultural irrigation. The conference will bring together experts, researchers, and representatives of institutions involved in agricultural water management and adapting crop production to climate change.
The program begins at 9:00 a.m. with participant registration, followed by opening remarks from Andrej Rebernišek, Director of the KGZS Ptuj Institute; Dr. Jože Podgoršek, President of the KGZS; and Mateja Čalušič, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Food.
During the technical session, speakers will present practical experiences with farm irrigation, new methods for monitoring soil moisture, and digital solutions for irrigation forecasting. Among other topics, Dr. Rozalija Cvejić from the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Biotechnology will present the basics of determining irrigation schedules and modern approaches to soil water monitoring as part of the Interreg Alpine Space A-DROP project.
The event will also feature presentations on innovative solutions for adapting agriculture to climate change, the economics of irrigation, national irrigation systems, and the importance of soil health.
The conference is intended for farmers, experts, researchers, and anyone interested in sustainable water management in agriculture.
