Biotechnology Summit to Bring Together Academia, Research and Industry
On Thursday, 15 October 2026, the University of Ljubljana’s Biotechnical Faculty will host the Biotechnology Summit and the 8th Lek Researcher Day. The event will bring together representatives of universities, research institutions, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, and other organisations involved in advancing knowledge and innovation in biotechnology.
The central morning panel discussion, entitled Developing the Biotechnology Innovation Ecosystem: From Foundations to Future Breakthroughs, will focus on collaboration between academia, research institutions and industry. The panellists will discuss the conditions Slovenia needs to support the development of knowledge, talent and breakthrough biotechnology solutions.
The programme will continue with the 8th Lek Researcher Day, which will focus on advanced approaches to the development of small and large molecules. Representatives of Lek and its academic and research partners will highlight key development challenges and present research achievements that could contribute to addressing them.
The afternoon session will be devoted to innovation in the field of One Health, which recognises the close connections between human, animal and environmental health. The keynote lecture will be delivered by Dr Anahita Le Bourdiec, founder and CEO of Gibsight and an expert in life sciences innovation. She will discuss how animals and plants model, modulate and inspire innovations in human health.
The keynote lecture will be followed by the Biotechnology and One Health Innovation Fast Track, featuring a series of concise presentations in which researchers and innovators will showcase development projects, new approaches and solutions with the potential to foster further research and industry collaboration.
The programme will also include guided tours of the Biotechnical Faculty’s laboratories, as well as opportunities for networking and direct exchange between researchers and industry representatives.
