FOODMicro 2026
From September 7 to 10, 2026, the international scientific conference FOODMicro 2026 will take place in Ljubljana, organized by the International Committee on Food Microbiology and Hygiene (ICFMH) in collaboration with the Slovenian organizing and program committee. We expect more than 550 participants from 50 countries around the world to attend the conference.
The conference slogan, “Revisiting the Roots: Reviving Hygiene in Advancing Food Microbiology,” emphasizes the importance of fundamental hygiene principles for ensuring food safety and the role of modern food microbiology in addressing new challenges.
The conference program will address the most significant current challenges in the field of food microbiology, where food safety, sustainable food production, and the protection of human health and well-being intersect.
FOODMicro 2026 is one of the most important international gatherings in the field of food microbiology and has been bringing together experts from research and educational institutions, regulatory agencies, and the food industry for decades. Due to the highly interdisciplinary nature of the field, the conference is attended by microbiologists, biologists, biotechnologists, food technologists, nutritionists, physicians, veterinarians, biochemists, chemists, pharmacists, and other experts involved in ensuring safe, high-quality, and sustainable food.
The goal of the FOODMicro 2026 conference is to bring together researchers, experts in the fields of food and nutrition, legislation, industry, and the environment, as well as other stakeholders, to exchange knowledge, experiences, and the latest scientific findings, and to jointly contribute to the development of sustainable food systems, food safety, and the protection of public health.
Researchers from the Biotechnical Faculty are involved in all aspects of the conference’s organization: Prof. Peter Raspor, Ph.D., as honorary chair; Prof. Sonja Smole Možina, Ph.D., as chair; and Prof. Janja Trček, Ph.D., and Assoc. Prof. Neža Čadež, Ph.D., as members of the program committee, while 12 other researchers are participating as active contributors with oral or poster presentations across a total of 10 sessions and three roundtables at the FOODMicro 2026 conference.
