- Hydrological function of forests, direct and indirect protection function
- Water in the forest landscape: physical and chemical properties of water, water circulation, energy in substances in forests
- Geomorphology (space and time, relief, isostasy, weathering, denudation, gravitational processes)
- River morphology (longitudinal falls of torrent streams, morphological forms)
- Large woody debris (ecological aspect, flood protection aspect, impact on forest stand structure)
- Water catchment area (watershed, runoff coefficient)
- Empirical forms for calculating runoff Q100 (Kresnik, Iszkowski, Iliev,…)
- Basic hydraulic analysis (flow velocity, Manning's equation, VGI equation, Rickenmann's equation)
- Basic principles of action in protection against torrents, erosion and landslides
- Dividing protections measures (technical measures, biotechnical measures, economic administrative measures, construction / non-construction measures)
- Transverse structures on torrents (dams, check dams, open check dams)
- Longitudinal structures on torrents (dams, slides, riparian protections,…)
- Design of profiles on dams
- Engineering biology (surface stabilisation of slopes or banks, methods of vegetation pruning in biotechnical insurance, anti-erosion protection of banks)
- Digital design and programming - basics of CAD and related programs
- Design (situation, longitudinal profile, precise profiles)

2) Seminars:
- Delineation of catchment areas in the GIS environment (flow length, flow accumulation, stream order)
- GIS analysis of the catchment area (surface of the catchment area, slope of the catchment area, weighted calculation of the runoff coefficient according to the site characteristics)
- Basic hydrological-hydraulic analysis of the torrent (calculation of water flow Q100 according to empirical forms, basic hydraulic analysis - hydraulic radius, wet perimeter, flow velocity)
- Dimensioning of flow profile for the selected torrent
- Drawing of a simple barrier / flow profile in a CAD program

3) Field work:
