Content (Syllabus outline)

History of Soil science. Soil forming factors and soil development. Rocks as a key soil forming factor: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks and their mineral composition; typical Slovenian rocks, weathering processes and mineral constituents of soil. Vertical and horizontal variability of soil properties. Physical and chemical processes in soil. Morphological, physical and chemical properties of soil: soil texture and structure, density, porosity, color; soil water, soil air and temperature, soil colloids, anion and cation sorption capacity, soil solution, acidity and salinity. Soil organisms, decomposition of organic residues, humus synthesis and properties. Biogeochemical cycles of elements (N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, microelements). Basic soil analyses. Diagnostic soil horizons, Slovenian soil classification, soils of Slovenia, basis of WRB soil classification, soil information system.

Prerequisites

Conditions for inclusion in the work:

Enrolment in the appropriate academic year.

 

Conditions for performing study obligations

Participation at tutorials is obligatory.

Before performing the last part of the examination, students must complete all previous obligations: two preliminary tests and partial exam.
