- Biochemical characteristics of life: basic structures.
- Prokaryotes vs. eukaryotes. Cell structure and function.
- Central dogma of molecular biology: genetic code, protein synthesis.
- Cell metabolism: basic energy conversion.
- Cell cycle. cell division: mitosis vs. meiosis.
- Evolution and animal classification: principles of evolution, domestication; adaptation; specialization; and classification of domestic animals.
- Basics of domestic animal anatomy: skeleton, muscle system, digestive organs, respiratory apparatus, secretion, nervous system, sense organs, cardiovascular system, reproductive system.
- Reproduction: germ cells, sex determination, sexual maturity;  hormonal regulation;
- Ontogenesis: basics of embryology: germ layers – differentiation and specialisation, histology, growth and development, 
- Basic principles of heredity – examples of Mendeliand and complex traits in animal production.
- Basics of population and quantitative genetics, biodiversity and conservation of genetic resources.

Prerequisites

a) Prerequisites for the inclusion in the work: Enrolment in the corresponding year of study programme.

b) Prerequisites for performing study obligations:
- Prerequisite for practical examination is minimal 80 % presence at practical courses.
- Practical examination is a prerequisite for final exam.
