Content (Syllabus outline)

Climatic zones and forest biomes of the Earth, tropical forests and forests of the temperate zone. Overview of the global forestry.

Phytogeographical regions and forest cover of Slovenia. Basic forest terms.concepts of phytosociology and principal forest communities in Slovenia. Preserved species composition of Slovenian forests, tree species with the highest share in the wood stock.

History of forest management and principles of Slovenian forestry. The importance of forest management and silviculture planning and the possibility of influencing the volume, quality and value increment.

Horology of tree species, types of distribution ranges and factors that determine them. Ecophysiological properties of woody plants and the reactions of plants to the environment.

The role of plant organs in the functioning of plants and their importance for species determination. Plant systematics and taxonomic categories, the definition of species. Differential presentation of selected important tree and shrub species . Present and future importance of a species, special attention is paid to new potentially usable species.

Prerequisites

1. Conditions to start the work:

Entry in the corresponding year of the study programme

2. Terms of prerequisites:

- attendance to the laboratory work

- attendance to the field work

- completed report from the laboratory work,

- positive evaluation of the herbarium.
