Content (Syllabus outline)

  • Kinematics: basic kinematic variables, description of the motion in a polar coordinate system
  • Dynamics: Newton’s laws, energy and work theorems. Oscillation, dumped, forced, resonance.
  • System of material points: mass center, dynamic equation of the mass center, angular velocity theorem.
  • Statics: equations of static equilibrium, basic principles, system of forces, equipollency, reduction. Systems of rigid bodies.
  • Solid mechanics: deformation, strain measures, deformation tensor, principal stretches. Stress, stress tensor, principal stresses. Linear elasticity, generalized Hook law, elastic symmetries. Introduction to rheology.
