Content (Syllabus outline)
Introduction to botany. Importance of botanical knowlege in the study of forestry. Basics of molecular composition, cellular, tissue and organic structure of higher plants and fungi; differences in the structure of plants, animals and fungi.
Structure of higher plants: structure, function and cell division of the cell; structure and function of plant tissues and organs; stem, root, leaf; primary and secondary structure of plants; wood, bark, cork; life forms of higher plants.
Asexual and sexual reproduction of fungi and plants. Metagenesis. Structure and formation of fungal fruiting bodies, flowers, fruits and seeds of higher plants. Germination.
Identification, naming and classification of plants and fungi; introduction to the plant and fungal system. Introduction to the forest flora from main forest types of Slovenia.
Prerequisites
1. Condition for participation in the course :
- enrollment to the adequate academic year.
2. Condition for successful course completion:
- attendance of laboratory courses is compulsory;
- attendance in field work is compulsory;
- the student must prepare a herbarium from plants he has collected in the field and submit it for review;
- before taking the exam the student must pass a colloquium in laboratory exercises and a colloquium in plant knowledge.
