Content (Syllabus outline)

Concept of horticulture, fruit growing, vegetable growing, viticulture, summary of fruit growing history and present state.

Division of fruit species into pome and stone fruits, small fruits, nuts, Mediterranean and tropical fruits, botanical classification of horticultural plants, importance of species, cultivars, regions and rotation of crops.

Organs of fruit plants, annual and life cycle of fruit species, flower bud formation, flowering, flower and fruit thinning, vegetative growth and generative development, ripening process and harvest time of different fruit species.

Students are acquainted with different types of greenhouses and their equipment (heating and irrigation system, artificial lights etc.)

Characteristics of main groups of vegetables (leafy and fruit vegetables, Cole crops etc.)

Botanical definition of genus Vitis, geographical classification (Negrulj).

Grapevine variety list according to abiotic and regional characteristics of grapevine cutivars in Slovenia.

Scope and general characteristics of viticulture in Slovenia and comparison with world viti-viniculture.

Definition of ornamental plant: annuals, biannuals, perennials and woody plants.

The effects of main growing parameters, water, irradiation and temperatures for successful ornamental plant production.

The problems of propagation and following technological patterns in terms of growing ornamentals.

Prerequisites

Conditions for inclusion in the work:

Prerequisite for exam is passing preliminary examinations.
