Content (Syllabus outline)

Evaluation of different forest functions, a role of social forest functions (emphasys on nature conservation, recreation, tourism, education, amenity) in different landscape types in Slovenia. Landscape ecological view of spatial land-use changes (forest clearing for settlements and infrastrucutre). Protection of natural and cultural heritage in forest covered areas (methodology and legislation).

Environmental impact assessment in forested landscapes.  International organisations concerned with nature conservation. International strategic documents concerned with nature conservation. International conventions (i.e. Landscape convention). Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe . European Union and protection of forests and biodiversity European networks (EIONET, CORINE, EUNIS). Natura 2000: legislation, management, monitoring. European organisations and iniciatives for landscape levels (BIOHAB, BIOPRESS, ECOLAND, Landscape Europe, Landscape Tomorrow, EIONET, CIRCA). Organisation of nature conservation in Slovenia.
