Content (Syllabus outline)

A) Principles and organization of research work

- principles of research work: concepts, classification, research process, the characteristics of economic research;

 - approach to research work, formulation of research problem and research work plan;

 - organization of research work, the principles of scientific reporting;

 - ethical aspects of research;

 - acquisition and organization of data for research, organization of work with databases.

 

B) The principles and organization of project work:

 - principles of project planning;

 - the organization of project work (contents, time, finance, personnel);

 - monitoring and evaluation of project work;

 - project reporting;

 - project management tools.

 

C) Acquaintance with institutions in the fields of management of natural resources and applied life sciences.

 - Government institutions (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Agency for agr. markets and rur. dvpmt., Institute for Nature conservation, Institute for Health Protection).

 - Non-governmental organizations (e.g., Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry, NGOs in the fields of environmental protection, consumer protection), organizational structure and working methods.

 - Presentation of the reputable companies from different industries in bio-based sectors.

 

D) Two project assignments

- Project assignment 1: Understanding the structure and operations of a selected company.

 - Project assignment 2: Preparation of a project plan on a given practical problem, and a disposition of a research assignment.

Prerequisites

1) Prerequisites for inclusion in study process:

  • Enrolment in the corresponding year of study programme.

 

2) Formative coursework and assessment:

  1. Two project assignments.
  2. Reports from tutorials and field trips.
