Content (Syllabus outline)
The following themes from microbial ecology, microbial biotechnology, medical and sanitary microbiology will be discussed:
biogeochemical cycling of elements; physicochemical parameters and growth of microorganisms, mass, heat, and momentum fluxes, microbial engineering, functional food, bioreactor technology in environmental applications, patent protection, biosafety, zoonoses, sexually transmitted diseases, neglected microorganisms, unknown microorganisms, microorganisms from tropical and subtropical regions, new technologies and their use in microbiological practice;
Prerequisites
Enrolment in the MSc program Microbiology. Attendance to lectures is facultative, attendance to seminar exercises is obligatory. A passing grade in seminar exercises is a prerequisite for access to the exam.
