Content (Syllabus outline)

Acting of endocrine organs and hormones, neuroendocrine mechanisms.

Growth process, endocrine, paracrine and autocrine regulation of nutrient deposition. Formation and basic principles of animal tissue growth. Growth regulation of whole organism. Prenatal growth: regulation, the course of events, development of endocrine system, sexual differentiation. Postnatal growth: protein and fat deposition, utilisation of body reserve, neurohormonal control of energy intake. Manipulation and disturbance of growth.
Mechanisms and efficiency of reproduction: function, morphology, regulation of function in different gender. Reproduction system until the puberty: secretion, function, role of sex hormones. Cyclic: active substances, duration, frequency. Gravidity: hormonal regulation, development of embryo and endocrine system, mother x foetus x placenta interaction.
Birth: endocrine changes, control and transition to cyclic.

Comparison of mammary gland among species. Functioning of mammary gland and it’s meaning for newborn. Neoroendocrine regulation of mammogenesis (prenatal, until first lactation, between lactation); lactogenesis (induction, maintenance, synthesis of colostrum, milk and single components); ejection (stimulation, disturbance); galactopoesis, involution. Disturbance of milk secretion.

Manipulation of lactation.

Correlation and interaction among growth, reproduction, lactation, nutrition and other environmental effects.
