Content (Syllabus outline)

Design studio:

Review of recent landscape design theories. Theoretical discourse on potential conflicts between individual understanding of design freedom and designer’s responsibilities toward societal requirements. Critique of aprioristic, a-social design concepts in Slovene and international practice. Practical use of urban social science and environmental psychology research results in landscape design. Students focus on individual studio projects of complex spatial problems. Review of design topics focuses on complex problems in urban space, regardless the scale (i.e. urban parks, urban green systems). Studio projects are often related to projects in Urban Planning course (same case study).

Planning studio:

Students working on a concrete planning project of smaller scale with specific land use; they prepare landscape plan for areas such as protected area, area of development due to restructuration (agricultural land, recreation or tourism, degraded area); sectoral plan or countryside development plan.

Prerequisites

  1. General requirements for master program and completed exams  in Theory of Landscape Design and Theory and Methods in Landscape Planning (or registered for these courses in study year)
  2. Completed seminar works and positive grades of: studio projects, portfolio and written exam/paper
