WOOD, ROOF AND SUSTAINABILITY: When wood becomes a learning ground for creativity (Department of Wood Engineering)
The Department of Wood Engineering of UL BF, together with the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, carried out innovative exercises in the course Wood Decomposition and Protection within the NOO ULTRA project. Students tested how different shapes of hoods affect the decomposition of wood, using only wood - no screws, glue or metal parts.
Students investigated the effect of different shapes of eaves on the wetting and decomposition of wood and developed creative roof solutions. The challenge was to be allowed to use only wood - no screws, glue or metal parts - in the construction of the structures.
The best solution was voted for by the students and actually implemented - this year's products can be seen in the background. The collaboration with ALUO has encouraged both students and teachers to think more creatively and strengthened communication between the different disciplines.
The project has also provided us with a range of new equipment, enabling students to gain valuable knowledge on sustainable wood use.
The project is co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the European Union - NextGenerationEU.
