Hemp – the plant of the future?

Is hemp really just what most people imagine it to be?

This documentary video addresses one of the most common misconceptions about hemp – that it is a plant with only one purpose. In reality, hemp is an extremely versatile plant with great potential for agriculture, industry, and sustainable development that goes beyond stereotypes and simplistic notions.
In the documentary video, researchers from the University of Ljubljana's Biotechnical Faculty, Doc. Dr. Marko Flajšman and young researcher Luka Bitežnik, explain why hemp is important not only for science but also for everyday life. They present the importance of the research being conducted at the faculty and explain why hemp is increasingly being referred to as the plant of the future.

The central part of the documentary video is devoted to the development of new varieties of industrial hemp adapted to Slovenian conditions. You will learn about the key characteristics of the varieties, the importance of feminized plants and grafting, and the differences between individual approaches that affect the stability of production and the quality of the crop.

The documentary video also touches on the broader social context: why it is important for Slovenia to develop its own varieties of industrial hemp and how scientific research can directly contribute to the development of agriculture and industry in practice.
