Projects of the Student Council
In addition to formally representing students at the Faculty and the University, the Student Council, together with the student community, the Student Organization, and student societies, organises a rich program of extracurricular activities for students.
Each year, several traditional projects are organized to bring the work of the Student Council closer to students, enhance student life, and promote networking between students of different fields and academic years.
Freshers’ Welcome
Each academic year begins with a Freshers’ Welcome at the Faculty, where representatives of the Student Council and Student Organization host newcomers with light refreshments and informative materials. We also participate in the Pozdrav brucem event organized by the Student Council of the University of Ljubljana at Congress Square.
BF se igra
BF se igra (BF games) is the biggest annual social event at the Biotechnical Faculty. Held in May, it takes place on the lawn between the Food Science and Agronomy departments, featuring sports competitions, prize games, and socializing over food, drinks, and music.
Summer School
Each academic year concludes with a short summer school that provides students with the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and skills beyond their regular academic curriculum.
The program includes lectures, workshops, field exercises, and project work, fostering interdisciplinary thinking, practical skills, and creativity.
The program includes lectures, workshops, field exercises, and project work, enabling students to develop interdisciplinary thinking, practical skills, and enhance their creativity and innovation. In addition to professional work, the summer school is also an excellent opportunity for networking, mutual connection, and the exchange of experiences in a relaxed and stimulating environment.

Student Cafés
During the academic year, we organize cafés, breakfasts, and picnics to brighten students’ days at the Faculty and offer opportunities for pleasant gatherings and networking.
Tenders of the Student Council
Co-Financing of Associations
During each mandate, the Student Council also co-finances events and projects organized by various student associations at the Faculty through a dedicated public tender, encouraging extracurricular student activities.
Co-Financing of Students
We are one of the few Student Councils that annually allocates part of the budget to co-finance students’ participation in educational (congresses, conferences, competitions) and sports events of European and global importance.
According to the regulations (External link to link Open in new window), every student with a valid enrollment at the Biotechnical Faculty can apply.
The Student Council may co-finance up to 60% of participation costs or a maximum of €200 net per individual. Covered costs may include transport, accommodation, registration fees, entrance fees, and other related expenses.
Applications are open until funds are exhausted. After attending the event, students must submit a final report and an article for publication on the Student Council’s social media.
The documents are available at thisExternal link to link Open in new window.
Summer School of the Student Council
The Student Council of the Biotechnical Faculty fulfils one of its missions through organizing educational events for students. This year's main event will be the Summer School held just before the start of the new academic year. The topic of this year’s summer school is Science at a Crossroad: From Popularization to Manipulation.
Science at a Crossroad: From Popularization to Manipulation
We will focus on science communication and the role of natural sciences in contemporary society, especially in the context of misinformation, conspiracy theories, and ethical dilemmas in scientific research. Participants will explore ways to effectively convey scientific information to the general public, analyse the media and social media’s influence on public perception of science, and examine cases of scientific fraud and data misinterpretation.
The program will also address issues of scientific ethics, research regulation, conflict of interest, and the use of artificial intelligence and digital tools in science. The Summer School aims to promote critical thinking, interdisciplinary approaches, and the development of skills for responsible and comprehensible scientific work in society.
Practical Information
This year’s Summer School will begin on Monday, September 22, 2025, and run until Thursday, September 25, 2025. It will take place in Slovene.
It will be accredited at the Biotechnical Faculty and can be used as an elective course for 3 ECTS. Credit points will be awarded to students who attend both theoretical and practical parts and successfully complete the final project.
The number of spots for the practical part is limited to 30 students.
