Content (Syllabus outline)

- The subject acquaint the student with zoo-component of forest ecosystem. With becoming cognizant of bionomy, autecology and demecology of particular notable representatives of forest fauna the student recognizes their role in the forest. The point is on biodiversity as a base for dynamic stability of forest system.

- The student discharges the basic terms of zoological science (biogeography, systematics, taxonomy, nomenclature etc.), vocabulary of zoology and theories of appearance and development of living beings.

- They acquire the knowledge of morphological, biological, ethological and ecological characteristics of most important and most typical animals in our forests from some taxa as: Nematoda, Arachnida, Myriapoda, Insecta (first of all Odonata, Saltatoria, Thysanoptera, Heteroptera, Homoptera, Coleoptera with fam. Curculionidae (subfam. Scolytinae), Buprestidae and Cerambycidae and also Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera), Amphibia, Reptilia, Aves and Mammalia (like Insectivora, Chiroptera and Rodentia). For selected species, management and conservation aspects are also highlighted.

- In detail they are dealing with systematics and determination of Insects and especially with phytophagous which in our forest cause disturbances with outbreaks. Beside the subject deal with dynamics of populations which can explain how the outbreaks can be stopped. It acquaintance with the recent research of forest fauna, methods of preparations and preservation of faunistic samples and with the importance of faunistic collections in Slovenia and abroad.

- Informs about the linking with users of knowledge (forestry, state institutions) and about inclusions in the applicable operative work and in the international nets.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites for participation:
- inscription to adequate academic year.

Condition for performing study obligations:
- colloquium: systematic and morphology of forest fauna,
- completed laboratory work,
- field work report.
