Content (Syllabus outline)

Types of biogenic wastes; routes of their formation, plant and livestock residues on the farm; recycling of biogenic wastes in the urban areas, the quantity of biogenic waste in Slovenia, physical and chemical properties. Food scraps, sewage sludge, solid and liquid manure, the contents of septic tanks, remains after fermentation, etc. Anaerobic digestion, biogas production and the use of residue after fermentation. Composting: biological basis, technological requirements, the dynamics of degradation, the existing technological processes, methods for determining the maturity of compost, quality parameters for the use of compost in agriculture and horticulture. Physical, chemical and biological methods for the assessment of the fertilizing value of the compost, residue after fermentation. Briquetting (pelleting) and the use of biogenic waste and produced organic fertilizers. Compost and other materials as components of growing medium (compost as a peat substitute). Growing media (artificially prepared garden soil, substrate-raising pot plants...). Analytical procedures for the assessment of growing media. Material - energy balance of individual manufacturing processes. Examples of integrated design technologies for reducing material - energy losses. Standards and legislation. Basic economic indicators of the processing and use of biogenic waste.

Enrolment in the appropriate academic year.

Prerequisite for final exam is passing preliminary examination.
