Content (Syllabus outline)

Basic structure of immune system (organs, cells, molecules). Definition of self-nonself, antigen, immunogen, epitope, antigen determinant; definition of innate-acquired, specific-nonspecific, humoral-cellular immunity. Molecules of immunoglobulin superfamily – structure and function. Genetic basis of antibody diversity and their mechanism of their in vivo generation (antigen recognition by B and T cells, processing, MHC presentation and TCR/BCR recognition). Cytokines – structure and regulatory function. Complement. Development and effector functions of hummoral and cellular immune response. Antibody structure, antibody-antigen reaction. Basic methods for detection of immune response: NO and Ab detection (NO-level, immunoprecipitation, immunoelectrophoresis, (hem)agglutination, inhibition of (hem)agglutination, immunfluorescence, immunoenzyme assay, Western blot. Vaccination and vaccine production. Immune molecules produced in vitro as bio-tec products.
