Content (Syllabus outline)

Cellulose fibers and nanofibers, natural fibers, their structure, properties and applications, production of micro and nanocellulose fibers, chemical functionalization of cellulose derived from unconventional sources.

Methods for obtaining cellulose nanofibrils, preparation of paper pulp, mechanical treatment, homogenization, chemical processing of cellulose, acid hydrolysis, steam explosion method and process by ultrasound.

Modification of nanofibrilated cellulose; modification of cellulose surface, acetylation, sylanization, use of coupling agents, grafting of functional groups, and molecules on the cellulose.

Polymeric materials, basics of polymer materials, the spatial distribution of macromolecules, and the distribution of average molecular weight, physical condition and arrangement of polymer chains, various types of polymerization, the procedures for the synthesis and properties of polymers, cross-linking of polymers, polymer degradation.

Polymer composites reinforced with cellulose fibers and nanocellulose fibers; review cellulose-based composites, composite materials based on nanocellulose, structure, morphology and mechanical properties. Biodegradable polymers and composites from renewable resources, synthesis, biodegradation and application of biocomposite materials based on biodegradable thermoplastic polyesters and lignocellulosic fibers, wood-plastic nanocomposites.

Use of nanocelulose composite materials, cellulose nanocomposites for use in medical, automotive, and as materials for building.
