Elective courses

- Central and peripheral nervous systems. Cellular components of the nervous system: neurons, astrocytes, oligodendrocytes and others.
- Neurotransmitters, signalling networks and transfer of information.
- Molecular mechanisms associated with neurodegeneration: excitotoxicity, mitochondria, cellular stress, DNA damage, nuclear transport, homeostasis (proteostasis and ribostasis), RNA biology, aggregation of proteins and RNA, inflammatory processes and aging.
- Animal, cellular and tissue models of disease.
- Important neurodegenerative diseases: genetics, diagnostics, pathology, mechanisms, bioiformatics, therapies. The focus will be mainly on Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, prion disease, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, frontotemporal dementia.
- Neurodegenerative diseases in animals.
