• Significance of the static and dynamic properties of wood in load-bearing building structures 
• Effects on structures according to the European Standard for the Design of Structures EUROCODE 1
• Loads (basic loads, composite loads, NTM diagram)
• Fundamentals of the design of timber structures elements according to the European Standard for the Design of Structures EUROCODE 5
• The concept of design according to Limit State Method
• Ultimate Limit State:
- Project load
- Project load capacity
- Loads considered in practise: centric tension, centric compression with and without consideration of deflection, bending and bending with axial force, shear, torsion and a combination of torsion and shear.
• Serviceability Limit State:
- General requirements 
- Limit state of displacement
- Limit state of vibration
• Load-bearing capacity, rigidity and arrangement of metal fasteners (screws, nails, staples and dowels).

Prerequisites

1. Prerequisites for the work:
- Entry in the corresponding year of the study programme.

2. Terms of prerequisites:
- Attendance at tutorials,
- Fulfilment of duties during exercises.
