In 2005 the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Dean of the Biotechnical faculty and Vice Dean of the Department of Forestry in the presence of the Pahernik Foundation founder Ms. Vida Ribnikar signed the solemn act of the establishment of the Pahernik Foundation. With this act Ms. Ribnikar bequeathed the Pahernik Estate to the Pahernik Foundation.
The Pahernik Foundation advocates co-natural forest management, encourages the young to take up forestry studies and supports research and pedagogical work in forestry, and thus promotes the development of the forestry profession.
The activities of the institution include exemplary sustainable management of the Pahernik forest estate, which is also a learning facility for forestry students, preserving the memory of forestry expert Eng. Franjo Pahernik and the Pahernik family, providing scholarships to students in the field of forestry, promoting research activities, and advocating for the general progress of forestry sciences.
